Brunner Family Float Trip

#3: 4-6 June 2010

I've never floated the North Fork River before... until now.

This weekend I went on the annual Brunner Family Float Trip with Julie, Dad, Uncle Billy, Aunt Jane, and a bunch of cousins and second cousins (I guess that's what my cousin's kids would be...) and it was a BLAST! We floated the North Fork river all day on Saturday and got to soak up some sun, reduce our carbon footprints via Trent's nack for competition, and eat a bunch of great food with great company.

Some of the trash we found on the river; Trent forced Dan and me into a "reduce your carbon footprint" competition starting out with picking up cans from the bottom of the river. By the end of the day, Dad and I found a case to a humidifier (or something), Nathan found half of a canoe, and Trent saved a baby and a grandma- he always has to show us up.

During the time we got out of our canoes and we loaded up everything in the van, Tayte peed on Julie...twice.

While Julie and I were doing the dishes from breakfast, I spotted the cutest little mouse under the stove! So, naturally, Trent caught it with a cup and his ninja skillz and we fed it monkey bread and watched it in a cup. Finley doesn't like pictures, despite how happy she is to be sitting on Uncle Trent's lap with a little mouse in a cup.

This mouse thinks he's in heaven. Little does he know that mouse heaven actually consists of running away from cats and birds :)

Can't wait for next year!

Hair Drug Test

#2: 3 June 2010

Today was my first day as the Sustainability Intern at DFA! I read a lot and my eyes hurt now. They scheduled a physical and drug test for me at the end of the day, so after taking the wrong exit, turning around, and getting to the waiting room 10 minutes late, I found myself sitting beside a table with a community publication lying upon it. It had ads, jokes, trivia, fun facts, and horoscopes:

Surprisingly, yes, that's exactly how I feel! I'm not familiar with my environment, nor do I know the people at work or the workers and others stacked in the hotel I live in! Amazing.

I also liked Mr. Marden's quote in the "Quoteable Quotes." Hmmm, I wonder if they meant to misspell quotable...

After waiting in the waiting room, I got weighed, told the nurse my height, got my heart rate taken, temperature, and then I had to go in the hall for the eye exam. As I mentioned before, I read a LOT today and was on the computer for the majority of the time, meaning that my eyesight depleted. That's what happens every time I get a desk job and it stinks. I'll be diligently working to counteract the time I spend staring at screens and pages of information.

So, other than starting an internship in Kansas City today, I've never had a drug test that consisted of the nurse cutting out a lock of my hair, sealing it up in an envelope, having me initial a few things, and sending me off on my merry way with a chunk of hair missing from the side of my head! The other nurse in the room was joking around with me saying "You know that nurse hasn't ever cut anyone's hair before?" and "She hasn't shaved all of your hair yet?" Little did she know that I've already been there before :)

On my drive home I was getting a little angsty about seeing so many apartment complexes, highways, and tall business headquarter buildings and such, so Ruby and I drove until we found some sweet sights of nature.

I've two conference calls tomorrow morning, an intern luncheon with the other 10 interns, and then I head south for the annual BFF (Brunner Family Float Trip!)

It's 8pm and the sun is shining!

I live in a hotel

So I'm starting my internship at Dairy Farmers of America tomorrow and moved to Kansas City today! The funny thing is that I'm living in a hotel all summer!!! So for the next 2 months, I'm going to something I've never done before and write about it!

#1- 2 June 2010

I moved into a hotel today! While I've stayed at hotels for a day or even a week, I've never moved in to a hotel room, by myself, to stay for an extended period of time. My bed is huge, there's a pillow on it that says "consider us home," I have a big closet, a fridge, stovetop, dishwasher, sink, disposal, table, lazy boy, flat screen tv, and a bulletin board!

I went to HyVee this evening to stock up my kitchen and fixed myself some Spiderman mac and cheese for dinner. Mmmm mmm goood.

Now to get ready for bed, read up on the dairy current events, and get some rest for my first day as a sustainability intern at Dairy Farmers of America tomorrow!

I'm a Mocha Club Campus Representative at Mizzou this semester and there's a really cool event going on next week on TUESDAY, JANUARY 26th at 8PM! It's a mochaclubLIVE event featuring live broadcast of Matt Wertz, Dave Barnes, and Brandon Heath talking, playing some music, and letting the world know about providing CLEAN WATER for Africans!
