Lunch Harvest!
Last week Laura and I took a trip to my backyard to harvest some spinach, lettuce, and beet greens for our lunch! We had homemade tortilla sandwiches with garden greens, hummus, and orange peppers with chips and salsa on the side.

ValuMarket
My $90 bounty from ValuMarket, a locally owned grocery store in Louisville. It kind of looks like Trader Joes when you go in, but it doesn't have organic produce, local eggs, or very much of a granola section. You win some you lose some.
Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Mint for Habitat!
Ari and I are leading a Habitat for Humanity workshop tomorrow evening about home gardening, composting, and where to buy fresh produce. We mentioned this to the leader of our Aspiring Farmer class (put on by SAL Sustainable Agriculture Louisville) and he walked us over to the community garden to harvest a bounty of mint for the habitat families! Herbs are awesome!
Asian Market
This week is going to be Asian food week. Here is my $40 bounty from the Asian food market on the other side of town.

The People's Garden
One of my new favorite things is going to the People's Garden. They have garden workdays every Wednesday and Saturday. Today the garden got water from the city and they harvested radishes and salad greens and sold them to two Healthy in a Hurry Corner Stores on the Westend! Things are moving along. I planted basil in the beds that previously held radishes and got to feel the warm sun on my shoulders, the moist soil in my hands, and the peace of the outdoors.
Two kind women walked by the garden and came over to see what was going on- I got to explain to them the market garden, children's garden, and the community garden. I offered them some radishes, but they didn't like them. I'm not sure if this is a personal realization, but I've found that I pretty much love any kind of food if I'm the one to pick it out of the dirt and eat it. I don't usually like radishes either, but these are so good and it's so fun to give them a little rinse and eat them in the garden! We'll see if this is still the case when I have to eat beets and kale out of my garden...
More adventures from the People's Garden to come!

Stuffed peppers
Try these! They're really good. I fixed them for my friends Wendy and Mark for a Sunday lunch a week ago and they were quite impressed. And then you get to keep all of the leftover stuffing to have burritos the rest of the week! Mmm mmm good!
